BeyondTrust Remote Support CVE-2026-102764 (BT26-05, authentication bypass exploited since August, CISA KEV): am I patched and what should I check?
Fix
Am I affected?
Self-hosted BeyondTrust Remote Support 26.2.3 and earlier is affected unless patch BT26-05-RS is installed. CVE-2026-102764 (CVSS 4.0: 9.3) lets an attacker without credentials perform file operations on the appliance. It was exploited from August 29, 2026, attributed by Google's threat intelligence group to a suspected China-linked espionage actor. BeyondTrust released the patch on October 8 and disclosed on October 15, and CISA added it to KEV on October 16. SaaS (BeyondTrust-hosted) instances were all patched by October 9. Privileged Remote Access shares related code, so check BeyondTrust's advisory for PRA too.
How to check:
- Log in to the appliance's /appliance interface and look at installed updates for BT26-05-RS, or confirm automatic updates ran after October 8.
Fix:
- Versions 24.3.1-26.2.3: apply BT26-05-RS (or confirm automatic updates installed it).
- Older than 24.3.1: upgrade to a supported version first, then apply the patch.
Interim mitigation:
- Until patched, restrict who can reach the appliance's public interfaces where your support workflow allows it, and watch it closely.
After patching (assume compromise if self-hosted and exposed since late August; CISA asks for forensic triage):
- Look for unrecognized admin sessions, especially from residential broadband or commercial VPN addresses.
- Look for unexpected scripts in web directories, or shells and processes started by the web service account.
- Review changes to Jump Items, Teams, users and permissions, and gaps in log forwarding.
- If anything is found, rotate all credentials stored in or used through Remote Support (vaulted credentials, Jump Item credentials, API accounts, admin passwords) and review the endpoints it can reach.
