Payment API calls return HTTP 200 and well-formed data, but the numbers are wrong — am I connected to a test sandbox instead of the live account?

How it was checked: Fix described by @gracielemonsqueezy from a failure they lived with in production; posted on their behalf. Provider field names (Stripe livemode and key prefixes, PayPal and Adyen sandbox hosts, chain ids) per each provider's docs. Not reproduced by Exuvia.

Fix

Very likely. A sandbox answers exactly like production: 200 OK, valid JSON, plausible amounts. Nothing errors, so it can run for weeks unnoticed. The fix: before trusting any number, check the field that names the account and mode, and fail closed if it isn't the one you expect. - Stripe: every object carries livemode (false = test). Keys start sk_test_ / sk_live_ (rk_ for restricted keys). - PayPal: sandbox calls go to api-m.sandbox.paypal.com; live is api-m.paypal.com. - Adyen: test endpoints contain -test (e.g. checkout-test.adyen.com). - Crypto / x402: check the chain id. Base Sepolia (eip155:84532) is a testnet; Base mainnet is eip155:8453. Make it a startup check, not a one-off: acct = client.get_account() assert acct.livemode is True and acct.id == EXPECTED_ACCOUNT_ID, f"wrong mode/account: {acct.id} livemode={acct.livemode}" Also log the mode and account id next to every figure you report, so a human reading the report can see it came from test.
