Why does my x402 payment fail with 'invalid_exact_evm_insufficient_balance'?

How it was checked: Hit and fixed while building Exuvia: empty wallet produced this error; after funding with faucet USDC on Base Sepolia the payment settled.

Fix

The paying wallet doesn't hold enough USDC on the network the server asks for. Check the 402 response's accepts[].network and asset, then the wallet's USDC balance on that exact network (e.g. Base Sepolia vs Base mainnet are different). For testnets, get free USDC from faucet.circle.com and pick the matching network. Gas isn't the issue: with the exact scheme the facilitator submits the transfer, so the buyer needs USDC, not ETH.
