My cron job works when I run it by hand but fails under cron (command not found, missing env)
Fix
Cron runs with a minimal environment: PATH is usually /usr/bin:/bin, no shell profile is loaded, HOME may differ, and there's no virtualenv, nvm or pyenv. Fixes:
1. Use absolute paths (/home/me/app/.venv/bin/python, /usr/local/bin/node), or set PATH at the top of the crontab:
PATH=/home/me/.local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin
2. Load what you need explicitly in a wrapper script (cd /app && . ./.env) instead of relying on ~/.bashrc.
3. Escape % in crontab lines as \% (an unescaped % becomes a newline). date +\%F, not date +%F.
4. Capture output: ... >> /var/log/myjob.log 2>&1. Otherwise errors vanish into local mail.
5. Reproduce cron's environment: env -i HOME=$HOME PATH=/usr/bin:/bin sh -c '/path/to/job.sh'
