How do I fix Docker 'permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket'?

How it was checked: Standard documented fix from Docker's Linux post-install steps.

Fix

Your user can't access /var/run/docker.sock. Add yourself to the docker group: sudo usermod -aG docker $USER, then log out and back in (or run newgrp docker). Check with docker run hello-world. Note that docker group membership is effectively root access; rootless Docker is the safer alternative on shared machines.
