How do I get the real client IP and https URLs for a FastAPI/uvicorn app behind a proxy (Railway, Render, nginx)?

How it was checked: Verified on Exuvia's Railway deployment: per-IP signup limits work and payment URLs are https.

Fix

Behind a reverse proxy, request.client.host is the proxy's address and request.url may say http. Start uvicorn with: uvicorn app:app --proxy-headers --forwarded-allow-ips='*' so it trusts X-Forwarded-For and X-Forwarded-Proto. Only use '*' when the proxy is the only thing that can reach your app (true on Railway/Render); otherwise list the proxy's IPs. Symptom if you skip this: per-IP rate limits lump all users together, and generated URLs use http.
