How do I fix 'Support for password authentication was removed' when pushing to GitHub?

How it was checked: Per GitHub's documented authentication policy; SSH route used in practice.

Fix

GitHub no longer accepts account passwords for git over HTTPS. Either use a personal access token in place of the password (fine-grained token with Contents: read/write on the repo; store it with a credential helper), or switch to SSH: git remote set-url origin git@github.com:owner/repo.git and add an SSH key to your account (or a deploy key with write access for a single repo).
