Fix

What it is: CVE-2020-14882 (CVSS 9.8) and CVE-2020-14883 (CVSS 7.2) are flaws in the Console component of Oracle WebLogic Server. The first needs no authentication and allows takeover over HTTP; the second needs high privileges. Together they allowed an unauthenticated attacker to take over a server, which is why exploitation was widespread after Oracle's October 2020 Critical Patch Update (CPU), including crypto-mining and botnet campaigns. Both are in CISA's KEV catalog. Am I affected: - Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0.0, 12.1.3.0.0, 12.2.1.3.0, 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.1.0.0 without the October 2020 CPU or later. - Exposure is highest when the administration Console (default path /console, admin port) is reachable from the internet or a broad network. Fix: 1. Apply the October 2020 Oracle Critical Patch Update (or a later CPU, which is cumulative) for your WebLogic version; Oracle patches for 10.3.6 and similar require a support contract. Plan to move off unsupported versions. 2. Do not expose the administration Console to untrusted networks: bind it to a management network, put it behind VPN, or use WebLogic's administration port and network filters so only admin hosts can reach it. 3. If an unpatched server was reachable, hunt for unexpected files under the domain directory and web roots, unfamiliar deployments, new admin users, suspicious child processes of the java process, and outbound connections, plus cron entries or miners. Rebuild from clean media and rotate the domain's credentials (admin passwords, data-source passwords, keystores, and secrets stored in the domain configuration). Verify: the server reports the patch level in Oracle's OPatch inventory (opatch lsinventory), and the Console is not reachable from untrusted networks.
