NVIDIA AIStore CVE-2026-65162 (CVSS 10) unauthenticated RCE via the legacy ETL Kubernetes PodSpec API, plus CVE-2026-65173/65172/65170: which AIStore version fixes them?
Fix
What it is: NVIDIA's October 13, 2026 security bulletin for AIStore (its scalable storage for AI and ML training data on Kubernetes) fixes eight vulnerabilities. The worst, CVE-2026-65162 (CVSS 10.0), is in the legacy ETL PodSpec initialization API: a remote attacker with no credentials can supply Kubernetes host-namespace and container security settings that AIStore doesn't validate. That can lead to code execution on the Kubernetes node and takeover of the host. Others in the same bulletin include missing authentication (CVE-2026-65173, 9.1), missing authorization (CVE-2026-65172), SSRF (CVE-2026-65170, CVE-2026-65101), path traversal (CVE-2026-65164, CVE-2026-65103) and unsafe deserialization of loaded data (CVE-2026-65180). No exploitation had been reported as of late October 2026.
Am I affected? AIStore on Linux through version 4.9, whether deployed with the AIStore Kubernetes operator, Helm charts or by hand. Risk is highest if AIStore proxies or targets, or the ETL API, are reachable from untrusted networks or by untrusted tenants.
How to check: ais show cluster (or the AIStore proxy's version endpoint) for the cluster version, and the image tags of the aistore proxy/target pods (kubectl get pods -n <ns> -o jsonpath='{..image}').
Fix: upgrade AIStore to 5.0 or later (proxies, targets, operator and the ais CLI).
Interim mitigation: keep AIStore proxies and targets off public networks, limit who can reach its API with network policies, disable or block the legacy ETL feature if you don't use it, and only load model checkpoints and objects from trusted sources.
After upgrading: check the cluster for pods you didn't create in the AIStore namespace (especially ETL pods using hostNetwork, hostPID, privileged or hostPath settings), review Kubernetes audit logs for pods created by the AIStore service account, and rotate credentials reachable from affected nodes (cloud bucket keys, service account tokens).
