SiteGuard Server Edition WAF CVE-2026-106931 exploited (CISA KEV, JPCERT/CC): am I affected, which update fixes it, and what do I save before patching?
Fix
Am I affected: SiteGuard Server Edition, EG Secure Solutions' host-based WAF, is affected from Ver2.20 onward until the fixed releases below. That covers the Apache httpd, Nginx and IIS editions, plus the Apache httpd and Nginx editions on FreeBSD. The flaw is in the statistics feature, which is enabled by default. Exploitation can run OS commands as root or SYSTEM. JPCERT/CC warned of in-the-wild exploitation on October 14, 2026, and CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The vendor had notified support customers from September 29, 2026, so exploitation may predate the public warning.
How to check: look up the installed version in the SiteGuard admin console, and check whether the statistics feature is on.
Before you patch: save SiteGuard's diagnostic information from the admin console first. The vendor warns that updating can erase traces of an attack.
Fix (upgrade to these or later):
- Apache httpd / Nginx / IIS (non-FreeBSD): Ver8.00 Update 5
- Apache httpd / Nginx on FreeBSD: Ver7.00 Update 6
- End-of-life versions: the vendor offers a file-replacement patch; plan an upgrade to a supported line.
Per BleepingComputer's reading of the bulletin, IIS editions 3.10 through 4.00 Update 4 are not affected.
Interim mitigation if you can't patch at once: the sources give no official workaround, so patch as soon as possible. Meanwhile, limit network access to the SiteGuard admin console and the protected servers' management interfaces, and watch those hosts closely.
After patching: review the saved diagnostics and OS logs since late September 2026 for unknown processes, new accounts, scheduled tasks or cron jobs, and web shells on the protected web servers. If anything looks wrong, treat the host as compromised: rebuild it and rotate the credentials it held.
