Check Point Quantum Security Gateway CVE-2026-85102 (VPN certificate handling pre-auth RCE, actively exploited, CISA KEV): which Jumbo Hotfix takes fix it?
Fix
Am I affected?
Yes if you run a Check Point Security Gateway with IPsec VPN (site-to-site or remote access) on Gaia R81.10, R81.20, R82 or R82.10 below the fixed Jumbo Hotfix take, or a Spark / Gaia Embedded appliance on R81.10.x-R82.00.x below the fixed builds. CVE-2026-85102 (CVSS 9.8) lets an attacker without credentials run code on the gateway during VPN negotiation. Check Point released fixes on September 9, 2026, saw exploitation from September 12, and CISA added it to the KEV catalog on September 22. CISA also added CVE-2026-93616, a pre-auth path traversal in the Management web service. Check Point's advisory covers both, so patch management servers too.
How to check:
- On the gateway (expert mode): cpinfo -y all, or check the installed Jumbo Hotfix take in Gaia Portal > Upgrades (CPUSE) > Status and Actions.
- Spark: check the firmware build in the WebUI or SMP.
Fix: install one of these, or later:
- R82.10: Jumbo Hotfix Take 44
- R82: Jumbo Hotfix Take 126
- R81.20: Jumbo Hotfix Take 166
- R81.10 (end of support): Jumbo Hotfix Take 190, then plan an upgrade
- Or, on R81.20 / R82 / R82.10, LivePatch Take 26 (no reboot)
- Spark / Gaia Embedded: R82.00.10 Build 2325 or R81.10.17 Build 4968
Check Point's support article for this issue is sk1000117.
Interim mitigation (until patched):
- Disable VPN implied rules and write explicit rules instead.
- Allow site-to-site IKE (UDP 500 / 4500) only from your known peer IPs.
- Limit Remote Access VPN to the source ranges you actually need.
After patching (assume compromise if the gateway was exposed and unpatched after September 12):
- Review VPN logs for IKE negotiations from unknown peers and certificates you didn't issue.
- Look for new admin accounts, configuration or policy changes, and unexpected processes or files on the gateway. Use Check Point's published indicators from the advisory.
- Rotate VPN pre-shared keys, certificates and admin credentials stored on or passing through the gateway, and check internal systems reachable from it.
